يتناول هذا البحث إحدى الوظائف المهمة التي كانت قائمة في عصر دولة المماليك، وهي وظيفة "الأمير الـمُسَفَّر"، وتُشير التسمية إلى أنه الأمير المسؤول عن مرافقة المنقولين أو المسافرين بأمر السلطان إلى مكان خارج مقر الحكم، سواء كان هؤلاء: مسجونين مسافرين إلى مقر اعتقالهم، أو ولاة وموظفين جُدد يسافرون إلى مقر عملهم. وقد اكتسبت هذه الوظيفة أهمية خاصة عند المماليك، بل عدتها بعض المصادر إحدى الوظائف المهمة التي تُقام عليها القواعد الـمُلوكية في الدولة، وأن أي خلل يصيبها يعد إخلالاً بناموس (قانون) الحكم. وهكذا يتناول هذا البحث وظيفة الأمير الـمُسَفَّر من حيث التعريف بها، وشروط اختيار شاغلها، والمهام المكلف بها، وأبرز من تولاها من الأمراء المماليك، ومقدار الراتب الذي يتقاضاه. وقد توصل البحث إلى أنه بالرغم من أن وظيفة الأمير الـمُسَفَّر كانت موجودة على الدوام في الديوان المملوكي، إلا أنها لم تُفَعّل بصورة دائمة إلا إذا توفرت الحاجة إليها، وكانت تُسند في الغالب إلى أمراء لهم مكانتهم في الدولة، وتتدرج هذه المكانة بحسب مكانة الشخص المطلوب مرافقته في السفر.

This research deals with one of the important functions in the era of the Mamluk state. It is the function of al-amīr al-Musafar, who would accompany governors and new employees traveling to their workplace. This function has gained special importance for the Mamluks, and some sources even consider it one of the important functions on which the royal rules are based, and that any defect that befalls it is considered a violation of the law of the state. Thus, this research deals with the function in terms of its definition, the conditions for selecting its occupant, the tasks assigned to it, the most prominent of the Mamluk princes who assumed it, and the amount of salary that he receives. The research concluded that although the function of al-amīr al-Musafar was always present in the Mamluk court, it was not activated permanently unless there was a need for it, and it was often assigned to princes of high status in the Mamluk court, and this status is graded according to the status of the person required to accompany him on travel.
